Our History
Established in Albany, NY by Jeremy Farber, PC Recycler, Inc. has been setting the standard for effective electronic recycling since 2003. Originally conceived as a means of assisting companies with the responsible disposal of their obsolete electronics, PC Recycler has become an industry-leading provider of green alternatives to the electronic asset management dilemma and related security issues.
PC Recycler’s first client was the New York division of Coca-Cola Enterprises. The exemplary removal services provided for the worldwide soft drink conglomerate put PC Recycler very much in demand. Soon, the organization began fielding requests from all across New York. To accommodate this demand PC Recycler acquired its first warehouse in Albany.
In 2004, PC Recycler made hard drive destruction services available to its customer base. This service was the logical next step for PC Recycler because it continued to serve out the firm’s mission of providing environmentally sound solutions for the secure, effective management and removal of any organization’s end-of-life electronic assets, while also safeguarding the integrity of each customer’s secure information.
Successful growth led to a market expansion in 2005 for the young firm. PC Recycler became the first to offer electronics recycling and data destruction as a singular service in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Overwhelming interest fueled rapid growth for the organization, and by 2006 PC Recycler doubled its facility size to service demand.
August 2005 saw the launch of PC Recycler’s Community Drop-off Event, a program that allowed individuals to recycle personal electronics, including computers, fax machines and cell phones. The event was so successful that on the second Saturday of each month, PC Recycler’s Washington D.C. location continues to accept and process personal electronics. To date, more than 10 million pounds have been collected and recycled for the good of the environment and the local community.
Mobile hard drive and tape destruction services were made available by PC Recycler in 2006, making it the first company to offer such a convenience in both the Albany, NY and Washington D.C. markets. In 2008 PC Recycler expanded the mobile data destruction to mobile hard drive shredding and degaussing making it one of just a few companies in the United States to offer such a specialized service. In early 2009 PC Recycler joined the GSA Schedule 36 of approved contractors to provide data destruction services to the United States Government.
Since its inception in 2003, PC Recycler has far exceeded projections in terms of demand and electronics processed. As an organization, PC Recycler is proud of its innovation and position as a provider of green security services and will continue its mission of providing environmentally sound solutions for the secure, effective management and removal of any organization’s end-of-life electronic assets long into the future.
