The "Monitor Queen"

 

Mary Tiong has been dubbed the “Monitor Queen”. Starting in her native Malaysia and taking her business to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tiong took discarded monitors and refurbished them to be used again for a helpful means. She has since branched out to collecting and revamping new computers as well. These old computers, the majority of which are collected in the United States, are sent to Southeast Asia to be repaired and sold.

These refurbished computers are symbols of Tiong’s goals to reduce landfill electronic waste and allow less fortunate countries to access new technology. Several companies and charities are invested in collecting old electronic equipment to become more environmentally friendly. Tiong continues to build on her operation and provide technology for those who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
